HVAC Oval Duct Maintenance

Your HVAC system is an important part of your home. Here are four things to know about your oval duct service and your HVAC system to make sure that you keep everything operating effectively and efficiently.

1. Airflow

Airflow and velocity are very important to you. Why? Because the airflow gets the air where it needs to go. Airflow is measured by CFM, or the feet it travels per minute. How does that translate to a residential customer? It means the faster the air travels, the more efficiently your system is working. Residential oval ducts are great for maintaining good airflow quality. So what should you do? Make sure that your airflow is unimpeded and that there is nothing in the way of the airflow. The best way to do this is by making sure that you have your oval duct service and HVAC system cleaned and tested regularly.

2. Sheet Metal

Metal that has been cut into flat, thin strips or pieces, is called sheet metal. Sheet metal is a great insulator for your oval duct service and HVAC system because it is so thin, usually 30 to 8 gauge. Contemporary spiral ductwork is made out of galvanized sheet metal and it is sealed in the factory to prevent wall air leakage. What this means to a regular person is that it saves you money by cutting down on leaks that waste energy.

3. Leaks and Holes

Your oval duct service and HVAC maintenance plan should include an inspection for any leakage or holes in the ductwork. If leaks or holes are found, they need to be repaired and sealed. Professional, good-quality filters must be used and changed twice a year, also.

4. Debris Accumulation

Ducts need to be vacuumed, cleaned, sanitized and tested for any growth of mold or mildew. Your oval duct service and HVAC maintenance plan should include having the ducting vacuumed and cleaned by a licensed local duct cleaning company once or twice a year.

Spiral duct work is quickly becoming more widely used than regular traditional style rectangular duct work. Exposed spiral duct systems in restaurants, hotels and even houses are becoming more and more common. Contemporary spiral ductwork is very aesthetically pleasing, while rectangular spiral ducting is not used as much anymore. The benefits of oval ducting are that it is more effective and efficient. However, in order to keep your oval duct service working efficiently, it is always good to remember to schedule regular upkeep and cleaning to make sure your entire HVAC system is well-maintained.
